UNITED GUARANTY CORPORATION JOINS INTEL IN OBSERVING DATA PRIVACY DAY 2009
Letters Sent to Educators Throughout Guilford County to Raise Awareness of Essential Data Privacy Practices

GREENSBORO, NC —United Guaranty Corporation has broadened its support of Data Privacy Day for 2009. In partnership with Intel,™ United Guaranty is reaching out to the Guilford County Schools and regional colleges and universities to help raise awareness among young adults of the importance of protecting their personal data. Letters to these educators were mailed January 22.

In the letter, United Guaranty encouraged educators to share Intel’s Web address with their families and friends during the week that includes January 28, 2009 – observed as Data Privacy Day in the US and in 27 European countries – at http://www.intel.com/policy/dataprivacy.htm. Intel’s site provides comprehensive information about personal data protection. These materials – which may be downloaded and shared throughout the year – are designed to reach a range of age groups from younger children to teens to adults.

This critical education effort, which focuses on social networking and privacy, is designed to provide teachers, parents, and students with links to educational materials, short videos, and other resources that emphasize the importance of protecting personal financial and contact information. Most importantly, these tools identify the very real risks associated with popular social networking sites, which potentially expose users to data privacy intrusion, identity theft, and other perils.

Teens and young adults are among the most creative, innovative, and frequent users of the Internet. And because they are often unaware of basic data protection techniques, they are among the most vulnerable to the dangers of sharing personal information with a broad network of social media users.

About Data Privacy Day
Designed to raise awareness and generate discussion about data privacy practices and rights, Data Privacy Day activities in the United States have involved privacy professionals, corporations, government officials, and representatives, academics, and students across the country. One of the primary goals of Data Privacy Day is to promote privacy awareness and education among teens across the United States. Data Privacy Day also serves the important purpose of furthering international collaboration and cooperation around privacy issues.
