AIG UNITED GUARANTY NAMES MARGARET AVERY GENERAL COUNSEL

GREENSBORO, NC — AIG United Guaranty,1 whose subsidiary companies provide mortgage guaranty and education loan insurance, emerging markets support, and other financial services, has named Margaret DuB. Avery as general counsel of its United States subsidiary companies. She formerly was senior vice president and deputy general counsel. According to Dick Gray, general counsel of United Guaranty Corporation, “This promotion affirms Margaret’s outstanding work and leadership in our domestic operations. Time and again she has demonstrated her value and made significant contributions to our companies.”

Since joining AIG United Guaranty in 1985, Avery’s responsibilities have included overseeing insurance department matters, drafting policies and endorsements, privacy, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issues, and other compliance matters. In addition to her duties at AIG United Guaranty, she has served as chairperson for Mortgage Insurance Companies of America State Government Relations Committee, member of the N.C. State Government Relations Committee, and general counsel to Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals (AICP).

Avery is a member of the American Bar Association, the N.C. Bar Association, and the Greensboro Bar Association. She has served on the Board of Governors of the N.C. Bar Association, chaired its Endowment Committee and Committee on Lawyer Referral, and served on the Continuing Legal Education Committee. Avery received a B. A. in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and has completed the Senior Executives Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
