AIG UNITED GUARANTY SUPPORTS FANNIE MAE AND FREDDIE MAC INITIATIVE TO HALT FORECLOSURE SALES ON HOMES
Will Work with Lenders with Similar Programs to Temporarily Halt Foreclosures
GREENSBORO, NC —AIG United Guaranty announced today its support of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s temporary halt to all foreclosure sales on occupied single-family properties – as well evictions from occupied single-family properties – scheduled to occur from November 26, 2008 through January 9, 2009. The mortgage insurer will also work closely with mortgage lenders and servicers who plan to halt foreclosures while they implement their own loan modification programs.
The temporary moratorium on foreclosure sales and eviction lock-outs is intended to allow affected borrowers to retain their homes while Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac work with their overseer, the Federal Housing Finance Agency, to implement a streamlined loan modification program that they announced on November 11, 2008. That program is scheduled to launch on December 15.
