Homeowners Educational Certification Program

Education Options for First-Time Home Buyers

Congratulations on taking steps toward responsible homeownership. Many lenders require you to complete an educational program as a qualification for loans such as Freddie Mac's Home Possible® Mortgage and Fannie Mae's HomeReady.

There are a variety of ways to complete the educational program. Your lender will inform you if you should attend in-person counseling or are eligible to take the online self-paced training—and some lenders require a combination of both.

Ready to Get Started?

To complete your educational requirements online, and at your own pace, take a free online training course through United Guaranty or Freddie Mac. Our pre-purchase education program, Home Ownership: Making the Dream a Reality, adheres to the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling association. United Guaranty's flexible, interactive course will teach you how to achieve your home ownership goals, whether you are a first-time home buyer or already own a home.

Successful completion of United Guaranty's Home Ownership course satisfies the home ownership education requirement for Freddie Mac's affordable home program. Fannie Mae requires home buyers to complete a specific educational course for the HomeReady program.

Talk with your lender to determine which program is best for you.
